Case Study 4

Patient Name: Tong Wei Hong
Sex: Male
Age: 68 years old
Complaints: Fever, chills, excessive phlegm, breathing problems
Diagnosis: Bronchitis

Bronchitis can also be caused by viruses such as Influenza virus, adenoviruses and rhinoviruses. The bacteria that have been shortlisted are:
  1. Streptococcus pneumoniae
  2. Klebsiella pneumoniae
  3. Haemophilus influenzae
  4. Moraxella catarrhalis
  5. Bordetella pertussis
  6. Mycoplasma pneumoniae
  7. Chlamydia pneumoniae
Here are the summarized biochemical tests and antibiotic susceptibility tests for the suspected bacteria. Pictures to help for diagnosis of bacteria:
